One Million. One Mission.

Kate Amato Foundation (KAF) is uniting our community to achieve a powerful milestone: funding $1 million in grants for innovative pediatric cancer research. And we are so close to that goal!!!

Each December, KAF awards our annual grant recipients and distributes funds to cutting-edge pediatric cancer research projects at some of the leading Immunotherapy and Cancer Genomics research labs in the country, all in an effort to save children with cancer.

As of last December, we had awarded $775,000 in grants. This year, our goal is to hit the $1 million mark in funds granted by November 30, and we are just $75,000 short of making that happen. We are asking for your help to get us to this milestone – and ultimately to ease the suffering and pain of children in need. Every gift brings us closer to changing the future for children fighting cancer.

Kate Amato Foundation

Kate Amato Foundation is dedicated to finding safer and more effective treatments for children with cancer by funding innovative pediatric cancer research.

Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children. For those who survive, the side effects of treatment can cause severe, long-term health problems including organ damage and secondary cancers. During Kate's illness, we learned how severely underfunded research is for pediatric cancers, resulting in outdated, toxic treatments and low survival rates for children. To honor Kate's life and continue the fight for other children, we are determined to educate, advocate, and fundraise for life-saving research.

Did You Know?

  • 43 children are diagnosed with cancer every day.
  • More than 40,000 children receive treatment for cancer each year.
  • Only 12 cancer treatments have been specifically developed for children in the last 20 years.
  • 1 out of 5 children with cancer will not survive.
  • Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children.
  • The genetics and molecular biology of childhood cancers are different from adult cancers, but we still use adult treatments for children that are highly toxic for kids.
  • 95% of childhood cancer survivors develop long-term health problems, including organ damage, infertility, chronic pain, and secondary cancers.
  • For many childhood cancers, we are still using the SAME treatments that were used in the 1970's.
  • The federal government devotes merely 4% of its annual cancer research budget to pediatric cancers.
  • The Pharmaceutical Industry devotes less than 0.1% of research funding to pediatric cancers.
  • Americans spend more on Starbuck's coffee in THREE DAYS than we invest in pediatric research in an entire year.
